Understanding and mapping poverty in the GCR
This research aims to understand Gauteng Provincial Government's requirements for poverty and inequality data at a conceptual and operational level. The research will provide data on “poverty hotspots” in the Gauteng Province using Quality of Life Survey data with administrative and spatial datasets. The research will generate municipal-specific reports with actionable insights. Findings will help direct resources to the most vulnerable communities, ensuring better-targeted social grants and support for employment and small business initiatives. The project responds to an urgent demand for detailed poverty mapping to improve policy interventions across the Gauteng City-Region.
