(Re)Build SA – understanding state crisis and capability
This project was initiated in 2021/22 with a series of three webinars looking at social, economic and governmental dimensions of rebuilding after the devastation caused by COVID and the July 2021 unrest.
Current work in the project focuses on a series of Rapid Research Papers, mainly focused on the crisis in local government. The project will also incorporate key elements of the Responding to COVID-19 project that reflect on governance of crisis and the renegotiation of the state in the face of crisis, including a major book project for Routledge.
Based on preliminary discussions with MISTRA, the project may in future see a longer-term symposium/book project on improving government effectiveness through more innovative policy coordination, delivery support units and transversal programme management mechanisms.
