Wits MIND Institute Welcomes Dr Laven Naidoo as Research Fellow
Dr Laven Naidoo has been recently appointed as a research fellow of the Machine Intelligence and Neural Discovery (MIND) Institute at the University of Witwatersrand. The Institute is an African-based interdisciplinary AI research hub that pushes the frontiers of scientific understanding of machine, human, and animal intelligence. His tenure is expected to last 2 years, and he will be contributing to research embedded within the themes of AI and Machine Learning applications within the field of urban data science.
He has recently started a project at the GCRO entitled: "AI and its impact on our world", which seeks to propose guidelines for the ethical and productive use of AI within a research space while also providing a space for writing thought-leadership pieces on understanding the ethical bounds of AI within both the societal and bioethical spheres of research. This includes contributing to AI-themed panel discussions and seeking to assess the limitations of different Large Language Model (LLM) tools.
