The State of the Gauteng City-Region (GCR) Review 2013 was launched on 25 October 2013 by Professor David Everatt at the Wits Club. His presentation was followed by a response from Gauteng Premier, Nomvula Mokonyane, who congratulated the Gauteng City-Region Observatory (GCRO) for this second State of the GCR Review, which enables leadership to make informed plans and decisions.

GCRO were further commended for making their research publically available on the interactive State of the GCR Review 2013 website.

The site draws on GCRO's diverse skill set and uses maps, graphs, info-graphics and diagrams in order to make the GCRO’s extensive research as accessible as possible. The Review is divided into six sections, namely Quality of Life & Marginalisation, Regional Economy, Life and People, Governance, Space and Mobility, and Sustainability.
