The Gauteng City-Region Observatory (GCRO) has grown substantially in recent years, both in size and the strategic scope of its work, and will continue to do so into the future. We seek to appoint a senior, experienced individual who will assist the GCRO Executive to manage the organisational development priorities associated with our internal programmes of work and our external partnerships. The incumbent will play a key role in adapting our systems and strategic relationships in response to the rapidly evolving context in which we work. In particular, the incumbent’s responsibilities will include:

  • Oversight and management of the contractual, logistic and productive dimensions of the GCRO’s external partnership and collaborative networks;
  • Oversight and directing of the operational dimensions of GCRO’s internal work-streams, including the production and publication of research and other outputs;
  • Assistance and support for the GCRO Executive in the design and execution of the GCRO’s strategy for research dissemination, communications and public engagement;
  • Oversight of the talent management, staffing and HR dimensions of the GCRO’s growth into the future;
  • Commissioning editorial and design support for the GCRO’s research production and publication processes.

The incumbent will have appropriate postgraduate qualifications with extensive experience in the university or research council sectors, especially with skills related to managing organisational change in complex and fluid environments. The successful candidate will be self-motivated, with strong levels of personal initiative and creativity suited to a highly responsive context.
