Welcome to the new GIS & Remote sensing intern joining the GCRO in 2023

Phemelo is an MSc GIS and Remote Sensing student at the University of Witwatersrand. Her research focus area is in water quality studies, specifically in the assessment of the capabilities of Unnamed Ariel Vehicle (AUV) and Sentinel-2 data in water quality of small dams. Her GCRO GIS internship is a one year contract, from 1st April 2023 to 30th March 2024. She is keen to contribute to various projects in the GCRO such as the “Exploring the relationship between wastewater levels for SARS-COV-19” which is a collaborative project between the GCRO and the National Institution of Communicable Diseases (NICD). The project entails monitoring COVID-19 infections using human wastewater to help monitor the spread of the virus. She is also interested in engaging in projects that incorporate socio-economic challenges within Gauteng as well explore new machine learning techniques.
