Teaching and supervision

Where appropriate GCRO staff will contribute to the teaching and learning work of various universities through lecturing and supervision.

2011

  • Josephine Musango was external moderator for two Masters degree modules  for Stellenbosch University - Renewable Energy Policy; and Financing Renewable Energy, in November 2011
  • David Everatt is supervising one Masters and one Doctoral student
  • Chris Wray is an external examiner for a Wits fourth-year Electrical and Information Engineering project supervised by Prof Rex van Olst
  • Graeme Gotz delivered a guest lecture on ‘Gauteng City-Region issues and challenges’, to third year Wits School of Architecture and Planning Students, on 25 August 2011
  • Chris Wray presented a lecture on Web GIS to Wits second year geography students in June 2011
  • Maryna Storie is supervising a Masters student in the field of disaster management at the Disaster Management Training and Education Centre for Africa (DiMTEC), University of the Free State
  • Maryna Storie is co-supervising a Masters student at the University of Johannesburg on the thesis topic of ‘Flood management and vulnerability in Diepsloot’
  • Chris Wray presented a lecture on Web GIS to Wits second year geography students in June 2011
  • Maryna Storie assisted various Masters degree students  at UJ and WITS on their mini-dissertations in various areas of work that GCRO is involved in
  • Graeme Gotz delivered a guest lecture on ‘Metropolitan areas & city regions: Johannesburg & Gauteng’, to third year Wits School of Architecture and Planning Students, on 12 April 2011

2010

  • Graeme Gotz taught a semester course, ‘Johannesburg as a City in Africa’, to 3rd year planning students in the School of Architecture and Planning at Wits University, from July-November 2010
  • David Everatt is supervising 3 Masters and 2 PhD students at the Graduate School of Public and Development Management
  • Maryna Storie is supervising 8 Honours students in the field of “Spatial Decision Support Systems”, in the Department of GeoInformatics, University of Pretoria. She is also supervising a Masters student in the field of disaster management at the Disaster Management Training and Education Centre for Africa (DiMTEC) at the University of the Free State
     

2009

  • Graeme Gotz taught a semester course, ‘Johannesburg as a City in Africa’, to 2009 3rd year planning students in the School of Architecture and Planning at Wits
  • Graeme Gotz lectured on the Urban Renewal module of the Urban Infrastructure Design and Management Masters Programme at UCT on 10 and 11 September 2009
  • David Everatt is supervising 7 Masters and 2 PhD students at the Graduate School of Public and Development Management, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg.
