GCRO hosted this Policy Workshop on 22 November. Approximately 60 attendees from a range of disciplines discussed concerns, and potential solutions, around the building of settlements on dolomitic land in the GCR.
Josephine attended the “Energy and Climate Protection Conference” on 5 October 2011 at Turbine Hall, Newtown, Johannesburg. The conference was co-hosted by Gauteng Department of Local Government & Housing (GDLG&H), SALGA GP, University of Johannesburg and University of Stuttgart (Germany).
Josephine Musango has complied with the requirements of a PhD degree (in Sustainable Development) at the School of Public Leadership at the Stellenbosch University, which will be conferred in 2012 academic year. She defended her thesis on “Technology assessment of renewable energy sustainability in South Africa” on 20 September 2011.
Ahmed Kathrada opens the Ahmed Kathrada Foundation's two-day conference on non-racialism - "From words to action: the challenges of deepening non-racialism in post-apartheid South Africa" - on 13 October 2011. GCRO jointly organised the event.

GCRO is excited to welcome Dr Sally Peberdy, who joins GCRO from the University of the Western Cape, where she taught urban geography. Sally has extensive experience in research related to cross border migration and trade in southern Africa.
