As Internet applications have moved to the mobile environment, governments need to develop new ways to interact with their citizens. GCRO is interested in investigating new Internet and mobile phone technologies that will provide innovative ways to connect government and citizens.

The following GIS data listed below were purchased for use in various GCRO projects :
GCRO is working with of the City of Johannesburg, which is in partnership with a Washington firm, Social Compact, to conduct a 'DrillDown' analysis of the Johannesburg inner city. Social Compact’s DrillDown method, pioneered in US cities, uses innovative techniques to determine population and spending power in order to unlock investment interest in under-developed urban areas.
The Gauteng City Region (GCR)’s “global competitiveness” needs to be evaluated in terms of its own characteristics, but also that of other similar city regions.
In 2009 GCRO commissioned a 6 643 respondent sample survey to measure the quality of life, socio-economic circumstances, satisfaction with service delivery, psycho-social attitudes, value-base, and other characteristics of residents in the Gauteng City-Region. Fieldwork was provided by DRA, who won a highly competitive tender.
